With the JDK 9 GA release, more developers are starting to explore how their code builds and runs with JDK 9. In this panel, leading developers of some of the most popular open source projects (Apache Lucene & Apache Maven) will discuss their experiences making their projects’ code ready for JDK 9 and Project Jigsaw. You’ll learn what kind of issues they have come across in practice, what to expect and how to deal with challenges that may come up as you make your own code ready for JDK 9.

Bio Dalibor Topic:
Dalibor Topic lives in Hamburg, Germany, and works as Principal Product Manager for Oracle. He joined the OpenJDK project in order to help make it a successful open source project, and stayed for anchoring Java in Linux distributions, and as an all around Java F/OSS community guy. He joined the Java strategy team at Oracle to help provide community feedback into the long-term strategy planning.

Bio Robert Scholte:
Robert is de voorzitter van Apache Maven en maakt deel uit van de JSR-376 (Java Platform Modular System / project Jigsaw) Expert Group. Hij heeft een groot deel van de implementaties gedaan in tal van Maven plugins ter ondersteuning van de nieuwste Java 9 features.

Bio Uwe Schindler:
Uwe is committer and PMC member of Apache Lucene and Solr. His main focus is on development of Lucene Java. He implemented fast numerical search and is maintaining the new attribute-based text analysis API. After the release of Java 7 in 2011 he started to intensify communication of Apache Lucene team with Oracle and OpenJDK team members and introduced the Java EA testing, running of his company’s servers. He studied Physics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and works as managing director for SD DataSolutions GmbH in Bremen, Germany, a company that provides consulting and support for Apache Lucene, Elasticsearch, and Apache Solr. He also works for “PANGAEA – Publishing Network for Geoscientific & Environmental Data” where he implemented the portal’s geo-spatial retrieval functions with Lucene Java. Uwe had talks about Lucene at various international conferences like FOSDEM, Berlin Buzzwords, ApacheCon EU/US, Lucene Revolution, Lucene Eurocon, and various local meetups.
